Trustees are directly involved in project work, wherever and however they can, but the key thing we are looking for at this point is experience in accountancy and bookkeeping to carry out the following over the long term:
- Liaise with team to ensure the financial viability of the organisation
- Advise on/produce budgets for funding applications for grant funding
- Take a lead in interpreting financial data to fellow team members
- Manage ongoing financial paperwork and file annual accounts
- Regularly report the financial position at meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc)
- Oversee the production of an annual budget and propose its adoption at the last meeting of the financial year
- Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place
- Appraising the financial viability of plans, proposals and feasibility studies
- Lead on appointing and liaising with external consultants, auditors, accountants etc when necessary
These duties would not rule out any other involvement or responsibilities within the organisation, in fact taking on additional activities to the above list would be most welcome.
