Severnside Institute for Psychotherapy was set up as a membership and training organisation in 1984 and is a charity and limited company, and a Member Institute of the British Psychoanalytic Council. It is a thriving institution, comprising professional and associate members and offering clinical trainings leading to registration with the BPC as either a psychoanalytic or a psychodynamic psychotherapist. Our mission is to improve the mental health of individuals and the community by promoting psychoanalytic thinking and the practice of psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy, and by providing high quality education and professional training. SIP offers two clinical psychotherapy trainings, Psychoanalytic (PA) and Psychodynamic (PD). It teaches the British clinical tradition, which is based on the theories of Freud and the contemporary Freudians, Klein and the post‑Kleinians, Winnicott and the British Independents and Jung and the post‑Jungians.
Contract type: Permanent (6-month probationary period)
Hours: An average of 6 hours per week, although the working pattern is variable.
Salary: £54,075 per annum pro‑rata (£24.73 per hour)
Location: Flexible. At times the post-holder will need to work from our Bristol office on Thursdays.
We are seeking a Head of Training to oversee and manage the delivery, resourcing and planning of SIP's clinical training programme. The Head of Training will work closely with the Training Committee to promote development of the Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic clinical trainings (which offer related but distinct pathways to professional qualification), ensuring they are of the highest quality, and that they meet SIP’s aims and objectives and BPC accreditation criteria. The Head of Training will also liaise with BPC over training and accreditation matters, including by attendance at BPC’s Head of Training meetings, and to represent SIP at national, regional, and local levels as necessary.
This role may appeal to psychotherapists who are qualified and experienced in psychoanalytic or psychodynamic psychotherapy, and who have an interest or experience in training psychotherapists.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable interest in the promotion of psychoanalytic theory and practice, and a strong desire to ensure that the standards and ethos of SIP’s long‑standing clinical trainings are maintained. They will be experienced in working collaboratively with members and committees and facilitating discussions and developments in a complex organisation. The post may suit a practitioner who wishes to combine it with their clinical practice.
