The mechanical engineering manager role

As Mechanical Engineering Lead, you will lead a team delivering mechanical and electromechanical systems across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to in-service support. You will oversee engineering outputs, drive continuous improvement, and ensure delivery against technical, cost and schedule targets. This is a key leadership role with responsibility for capability development, resource planning, and maintaining high engineering standards across multiple defence programmes.

Essential skills

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Proven experience delivering mechanical or electromechanical systems within defence, maritime or aerospace
• Strong understanding of mechanical design, analysis and manufacturing processes
• Experience leading and developing engineering teams
• Ability to review and approve engineering designs, drawings and analyses
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• SC clearance or eligibility
