Pay & Benefits: The pay range for this role is generally $70,000 - $75,000 annually, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI serves the most vulnerable individuals, families, and communities with critical services and programs. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – the poor and working poor, low income people with chronic illnesses, persons with criminal justice involvement, substance users, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.
POSITION SUMMARY:
CHASI’s Next Step Resource and Recovery Center provides opportunities for people in all stages and forms of recovery to deliver and attend individual and group support activities, initiate and conduct outreach, and events celebrating recovery and reducing stigma associated with substance use. The Center operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and hosts several services, including Recovery Center peer-driven individual and group recovery services, counseling and case management, overdose prevention services, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented community outreach, education, and the Training Institute. The Peer Training Institute is designed to promote professional growth and development for people in recovery from substance use and support the institutions that hire them.
The Director, Recovery Supports and Training provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of CHASI’s peer-led Resource and Recovery Center, the Peer Training Institute, and all Workforce Development initiatives. This includes management of the Peer Training, Certified Recovery Peer Advocate core trainings and Renewed Foundations training tracks, Administrative Professional and Custodial/Janitorial which prepare participants for sustainable employment and professional growth.
The Director leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based curricula and recovery support programs that promote empowerment, workforce readiness, and professional development for individuals impacted by substance use disorders. The role also oversees community partnerships, volunteer engagement, and workforce placement initiatives that connect trained peers to employment across healthcare, treatment, and social service systems throughout Staten Island.
This position requires a mission-driven, organized, and innovative leader who can balance curriculum development, staff supervision, partnership cultivation, and program accountability in alignment with CHASI’s mission and values.
Duties & Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight for all Recovery Support and Training initiatives, including the Peer Training Institute, Renewed Foundations training tracks (Administrative Professional and Custodial/Janitorial), and all Workforce Development programming.
- Ensure all curricula are evidence-driven, trauma-informed, and consistent with harm reduction and recovery-oriented principles.
- Direct the development, delivery, and evaluation of training modules on recovery coaching, harm reduction, client-centered counseling, trauma-informed care, conflict management, and thriving in the workplace.
- Maintain fidelity to established training models, ensuring quality and consistency across all program components and learning environments.
Curriculum and Workforce Development
- Develop and maintain ongoing professional development curricula for staff working with individuals affected by Substance Use and/or Opioid Use Disorders.
- Oversee implementation and outcomes of the Renewed Foundations Administrative Professional and Custodial/Janitorial training tracks, ensuring alignment with workforce readiness and participant success measures.
- Supervise the Workforce Development Specialist in coordinating employment readiness, job placement, and workforce enhancement initiatives.
Staff Supervision and Development
- Supervise and support the following staff;
- Full-time Training Coordinator, overseeing operations of the Peer Training Institute.
- Full-time Lead Trainer, responsible for delivering and maintaining fidelity of the Renewed Foundations training tracks.
- Workforce Development Specialist, coordinating client employment support and workforce partnerships.
- Three part-time Recovery Coach Peer Interns, providing coaching, mentorship, and recovery-focused services.
- Provide direct supervision, performance evaluation, and professional development opportunities to all assigned staff and interns.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for recruitment, orientation, training, and staff performance management.
Community Engagement and Collaboration
- Build and sustain partnerships with community-based organizations, treatment providers, educational institutions, and workforce agencies to enhance training and employment pathways.
- Collaborate with CHASI’s Communications Department to manage the Recovery Center and Peer Training Institute’s online presence, including social media, website content, and digital outreach.
- Lead planning and coordination of Recovery-focused community events, outreach activities, and volunteer engagement initiatives.
Program Administration and Reporting
- Monitor program deliverables, budgets, and timelines to ensure compliance with organizational and funder requirements.
- Prepare and submit all required documentation, including program reports, quality assurance metrics, and continuous quality improvement data.
- Conduct research and attend professional development trainings to stay informed on best practices in recovery support, harm reduction, and workforce development.
- Coordinate with CHASI departments to strengthen cross-program collaboration and integration of Recovery Center and Training Institute services.
- Align all program activities with CHASI’s mission, vision, and organizational culture.
- Provide office coverage and perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 4 years of experience providing peer-led recovery support services and/or facilitation of training on topics related to substance use disorder, harm reduction, or recovery coaching required. Degree beyond the minimum requirement in a related field may be considered as a supplement some years of experience.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory and program management role.
- Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) required. CCAR Recovery Coach Professional (RCP) required.
- CCAR Recovery Coach Professional Facilitator (RCP-F) preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; significant related experience beyond the minimum requirement may be considered as a supplement of a 4-year degree.
- Demonstrated ability and/or commitment to working effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds with sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, and sexual minorities
- Knowledgeable with harm reduction and trauma-informed practices, philosophy, and interventions
- Demonstrated ability to deliver training and support
- Excellent oral/written communication skills and strong organizational and computer skills are necessary
- Computer literacy: knowledge and ability to use programs such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other data reporting systems
