Join a high-performing Midlands transport team where your expertise in traffic signal design will shape real-world infrastructure across the UK.
As a Principal Traffic Signals Engineer, you will take a leading role in delivering high-quality traffic signal design and assessment projects to current UK standards. Working within a collaborative team, you will combine technical delivery with project management, client engagement and team development. The role covers junction design using AutoCAD, capacity modelling with LinSig and TRANSYT, and the preparation of detailed reports and specifications. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, on time and within budget, while maintaining compliance with quality assurance processes.
You will play a key role in translating client requirements into effective, buildable signal solutions that improve network performance and safety. Your ability to manage projects, build client relationships and provide technical leadership will directly influence successful project outcomes. You will also support the growth of the team by mentoring junior engineers and contributing to a culture of technical excellence.
You will have proven experience in UK traffic signal design, with strong knowledge of relevant standards and modelling tools such as LinSig and TRANSYT. Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience in data analysis, reporting and client-facing roles are essential. A relevant degree and professional membership are advantageous, alongside experience with MOVA, ITS technologies or micro-simulation tools such as VISSIM or PARAMIC. A full UK driving licence is required.
This role is based in Leicester within a flexible hybrid working model. You will collaborate with colleagues across the Midlands and UK, with occasional travel for site visits and client meetings. We support flexible working patterns and offer a dynamic environment that encourages career progression, technical development and work-life balance.
In alignment with the Equality Act 2010, we will make reasonable adjustments to support candidates and employees requiring additional arrangements. This could include adaptations to work schedules, training approaches, or the physical workspace.
