Specialist Nurse

An exciting opportunity has become available for a band 6 Specialist Nurse to join an enthusiastic, forward‑thinking, multi‑disciplinary team within the Humber Centre Ouse Ward, a 14‑bedded male unit where all patients are detained under the Mental Health Act.

As a Specialist Nurse, you will be an integral part of the multi‑disciplinary team, providing high‑level specialist care and working towards a trauma‑informed model of care. You will also support the management team in implementing clinical and operational policy, protocol, and service development.

Main duties of the job

You will receive a comprehensive induction into the Trust and the team, and a bespoke training passport tailored for all Humber Centre staff. Staff well‑being and support are a priority, with systems such as regular clinical and managerial supervision, weekly reflective practice, and team discussions after all shifts.

Qualifications and Knowledge

• Part III or 13 of NMC live register
• Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service area (e.g., Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion)
• Demonstrable experience of mentoring pre‑registration students
• Advanced IT skills
• Leadership training / qualification / experience
• Evidence of project work that has impacted practice and demonstrates a higher level of communication, planning and change within own area of work/responsibility

Experience

• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care
• Evidence of development of specialist practice nursing skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
• Demonstrable experience of working in the specific field where the post is held

Skills and Competencies

• Effective inter‑personal skills and experience in supervising and mentoring
• Ability to lead and motivate staff to embrace change
