Pay Rate: Competitive - up to £37 per hour (umbrella)
About the Role
Cafcass is seeking an experienced Family Court Adviser to join their Kent team. This role focuses primarily on Private Law cases, preparing Section 7 reports and supporting the family courts by providing high‑quality social work assessments, analysis, and recommendations. As a Family Court Adviser, you will provide advanced social work services to children, families, and courts, ensuring that the child remains at the centre of all decision‑making. You will assess court applications for child protection and serious welfare concerns, influence those with parental responsibility to adopt a child‑focused approach, and support judicial case management. This is an agency role offering flexible working, high‑impact practice, and the opportunity to make a real difference to children’s lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct high‑quality assessments, analysis, and report writing, primarily Section 7 reports
- Provide expert advice to courts and local authorities on child welfare and safeguarding issues
- Represent Cafcass in court and provide oral evidence when required
- Work directly with children and families to gather information and ensure their voices are heard
- Negotiate effectively with parents, carers, and professionals on behalf of children
- Prioritise work, meet deadlines, and manage a high throughput of complex cases
- Maintain accurate records and use IT systems effectively
- Advocate for children's best interests throughout the family justice process
Essential Requirements
- Social Work Qualification – Degree or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years post‑qualifying experience in Private Law social work
- Experience preparing Section 7 reports
- Social Work England Registration
- Strong court experience, including providing oral evidence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Effective negotiation, organisational, and time‑management skills
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
