Senior School Nurse

The role is a fixed‑term vacancy of 3 days, 22.5 hours per week, until June 2027. The successful candidate will be based in the Stroud locality and work across the Cotswolds and Stroud localities.
Main duties of the job
- Provide a holistic health assessment for vulnerable children, offer advice, support and interventions to address unmet health needs and improve outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with children, young people and their families using a trauma‑informed approach and knowledge of ACES.
- Lead on safeguarding cases, including children in need of protection, A&E referrals, Children in Need and other vulnerable cases.
- Provide advice, support and professional challenge at multi‑agency meetings.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams and statutory/voluntary agencies to plan, deliver and evaluate care.
- Proactively identify and refer children and families where assessment indicates physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect.
- Promote and administer public health immunisation and vaccination programmes where required.
- Maintain accurate, factual and contemporaneous records in line with NMC guidelines and local policy.
Qualifications
- Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) qualification.
- Skills for teaching and assessing in clinical practice ENB 998/FLAP or equivalent.
- Child Protection training above foundation level.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
- NMC registration at level 1 and level 3.
- Family Planning qualification or willingness to undertake appropriate training (PGD/Sexual Health).
Experience and attributes
- Knowledge and understanding of the Public Health Agenda for School Nursing.
- Specialist knowledge of local GCSP and National Child Protection Guidelines.
- Experience working across agencies.
- Understanding and application of research in practice.
- Experience identifying and assessing health needs, including community health needs.
- Adaptability and passion to innovate and improve quality and services.
- Interest in data and its use in service design.

Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 per annum (pro rata).
