Job Overview
We require a flexible, dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our amputee rehabilitation team, who will play a key role in the delivery of high‑quality treatment and care to patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical, scientific and advisory services to patients for their rehabilitation by restoration, using prosthetics, in upper and lower limb amputation or deficiency due to various causes such as congenital deficiency, diabetes, orthopaedic, vascular and trauma cases.
- Undertake detailed assessments in conjunction with the Centre’s Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) to enable personalised care plans and facilitate provision of clinically suitable prosthetic limb prescriptions.
- Perform clinical examination and evaluation of patients’ prosthetic needs, formulate design (prescription) of prostheses, selecting materials and components.
- Manage own clinics, arranging appointments and coordinating with patients and MDT members.
- Maintain accurate and timely information on SMRC and Trust recognised systems.
- Perform fitting and evaluation of prostheses, including static and dynamic alignments, and make adjustments to ensure fit, function, comfort and quality.
- Participate in audit, research, governance, complex case review, service improvement and mandatory training and meetings.
- Assist and support the Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and work as part of the prosthetic team in the safe and effective management of prosthetic patients.
- Ensure appropriate prescription and treatment is delivered based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care, meeting patient needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards, evidence‑based guidelines and decision making.
- Proactively engage with patients, relatives and carers to seek their views, gain consent and keep them informed about their treatment and care, communicating information effectively.
- Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within the scope of the role and professional practice.
- Work within professional and Trust guidelines at all times and through informed consent to ensure the best prosthetic treatment outcome for our patients within agreed resources.
About the Preston Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC)
The SMRC is part of the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and offers Prosthetic, Orthotic, Wheelchair and Specialist Seating services throughout Lancashire, South Cumbria and beyond. It is a regional Centre and one of nine centres awarded Specialist War Veteran Centre status with associated specialist facilities.
Team
The Centre has a truly multidisciplinary team including Consultant in Amputee Rehabilitation, Prosthetists, Prosthetic Technicians, Orthotists, Psychologist, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nursing Team, Assistant Practitioners, Physical Training Instructors, Rehabilitation Engineers and Administration Teams.
