Role: Senior Employment Locum Lawyer
Location: Manchester (Hybrid Working Available)
Rate: £50 - £60 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 25th April 2026 - End of June 2026
The Opportunity
CRA Consulting is proud to be working in partnership with a major Local Authority in Greater Manchester to recruit an experienced Senior Employment Locum Lawyer.
This is an excellent opportunity to step into a high-profile, strategic role, supporting a well-established legal team delivering key services across the council and wider public sector partnerships. You will play a pivotal role advising on complex and often sensitive employment matters, supporting senior stakeholders and contributing to the authority's wider objectives.
The role sits within a centre of excellence providing legal services not only to the council but also to wider regional bodies, offering real variety and impact in your work.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing a caseload of complex employment law matters, including contentious and non-contentious issues
- Providing strategic legal advice to senior officers, HR teams and elected members
- Supporting disciplinary, grievance and tribunal matters
- Advising on policy development, restructures, TUPE and workforce change programmes
- Acting as a subject matter expert, contributing to wider organisational strategy and decision‑making
- Building strong relationships across internal departments and external stakeholders
- Supporting and mentoring junior members of the legal team where required
What They're Looking For
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX Lawyer with a current practising certificate
- Strong background in Employment Law, ideally within a local authority or public sector environment
- Experience handling complex, high‑value and sensitive matters
- Ability to provide clear, pragmatic and commercially aware advice
- Confident communicator with experience engaging senior stakeholders
- Able to hit the ground running in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment
