We are seeking an experienced Traffic Signals Engineer to lead the design, delivery, and optimisation of signal‑controlled junctions and crossings across the local network. You will play a key role in improving traffic flow, safety, and network efficiency while supporting wider transport strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and review traffic signal schemes using industry standards (e.g. MOVA, SCOOT, UTC systems)
- Manage projects from feasibility through to implementation and post‑installation review
- Analyse traffic data to optimise signal timings and network performance
- Oversee maintenance, upgrades, and fault resolution of signal assets
- Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders, including elected members and the public
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and health & safety requirements
- Contribute to transport planning initiatives and smart mobility projects
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in traffic signals engineering within a local authority or consultancy
- Strong knowledge of UK standards (e.g. TSRGD, DfT guidance)
- Experience with signal design tools and modelling software
