JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Transport Planner to join a busy transport office environment supporting fleet operations and logistics planning. As a Transport Planner you will be responsible for coordinating collections and deliveries, ensuring routes are efficient and cost-effective while maintaining compliance with driver hours and transport legislation. The Transport Planner will work closely with drivers, customers and subcontractors to manage schedules, resolve delays and optimise fleet utilisation. This role is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills, transport systems knowledge and the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic logistics environment.
DUTIES
- Route Planning and Scheduling: Plan collections and deliveries to meet customer time windows.
- Driver Communication: Liaise with drivers regarding delays, routes and operational issues.
- Customer Liaison: Communicate with customers to manage expectations and resolve delivery issues.
- Subcontractor Sourcing: Identify and engage local subcontractors when required.
- Compliance Management: Ensure adherence to driver hours, WTD and transport legislation.
- Driver Briefing and Debriefing: Conduct pre-briefs and debriefs ensuring accurate documentation.
- Fleet Utilisation: Maximise use of vehicles and drivers to improve efficiency and margins.
- Reporting: Complete late load reports and maintain accurate transport records.
- Maintenance Oversight: Ensure vehicle checks, servicing and MOT compliance.
- Administrative Tasks: Manage transport documentation and update planning systems.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience working in a transport office or logistics planning environment.
- Knowledge of driver hours, tachograph regulations and Working Time Directive.
- Strong IT skills with experience using transport systems or planning software.
- Good understanding of health and safety within transport operations.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Experience managing drivers or coordinating teams.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of cost-effective planning.
- A proactive and self-motivated approach to work.
