The Ophthalmology team is based at our new Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield and provide specialist care and investigations with services also delivered via our Dewsbury and Pontefract sites. Our excellent team of dedicated Doctors, Nurses, Opticians, Orthoptists and other support staff provide a wide range of eye care services to children and adults. Our aim is to provide the best possible eye care in a modern environment which is well equipped, modern and efficient. We are looking for a motivated individual who will support the strategic direction of the service, through the provision of safe, effective and high quality care. The successful candidate will work as part of an innovative team, building and shaping services for the future.
The main duties of the post will include: Supporting the provision of General Ophthalmology with a subspecialty interest in Paedatrics and Adult Motility. Delivery of outpatient clinics and day case surgery. Workload includes seeing about 12 patients in Face to Face clinic and 24 patients in Virtual clinic. In theatre if Cataract expected to do about 7-8 Cases. Paediatric and Adult Motility theatre. Also ROP screening in Neonatal unit. Urgent and Emergency Care duties include out-of-hours on-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working. On-call duties are currently shared with 8 other colleagues on a 1:8.5 Rota, currently assessed as 0.8 PA. Consultants are normally working at one site only for the whole day but if in job plan there is travel involved during the day then it is paid as 0.25 PA DCC activity. Time off in Lieu or Compensatory rest is provided for out of hours work in line with the National consultant Contract. 1.5 Core Supporting Professional Activities will be offered to the successful candidate for which appropriate objectives will be agreed in accordance with the Trust Framework* and national Terms and Conditions of Service with additional 0.5 PA for extra roles like Lead for service etc.

About the role
This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered.
Whilst the role will be based primarily at our Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, we provide services at our other hospital sites; Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. Most People do work from two sites, If they have to travel between sites during the day then that is reflected in the job plan as travel. The department provides Secretarial support and office accommodation in the Eye Centre. The department has the support of Optometrists, Orthoptists, Specialist Nurses and Eye Clinic Liaison Officers.
