Consultant Haematologist

Main duties of the job
London North West University Hospital Trust is seeking consultant haematologists to deliver and develop haematology services for patients in the catchment area. Posts are based at Northwick Park Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital.
The role is full‑time (10 PA). Responsibilities include:
- Three outpatient haematology clinics per week.
- On‑call attending weeks shared 1:6 with colleagues, supported by a 24‑hour on‑call registrar.
- Clinical activities mainly at Northwick Park Hospital during on‑call weeks.
- Attendance in MDT meetings at local and regional levels.
- Support education and training across the trust to foster excellence in emergency and long‑term management of haematological disorders.
Job responsibilities
The final job plan will be subject to tailoring to the applicant’s specific role. The provided plan is a specimen. There is potential for limited working from home (≈20% total working) once agreed as part of the consultant’s job plan.
Qualifications
- FRCPath or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- On the GMC Specialist Register – CCT/CESR (or within 6 months of interview)
- MD, PhD or equivalent
Knowledge
- Broad training in Haematology and its subspecialties
- Broad training in general medicine
- NHS experience within the last 3 years
Management & Audit
- Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications
- Ability to motivate and develop the multi‑disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives
- Evidence of service audit, design or change management
Teaching
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
