Overview
The South East Genomic Medicine Service (SE GMS) is recruiting a Project Manager to support a diverse portfolio of projects and improvement initiatives that drive the integration of genomic testing into routine NHS care. The role will be based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and is part of a newly awarded 10‑year contract.
Key Projects
The portfolio includes the rollout of the Sudden Cardiac Death pathway, development of Population Health services, an AI‑driven clinical trial matching service, and ongoing advancements in cancer genomic medicine. The project covers South London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex and aligns with the National Genomic Test Directory.
Responsibilities
- Apply a structured project management approach for the delivery of specific projects across the GMS.
- Lead the development of project plans and the delivery of agreed objectives in line with wider programme strategy.
- Maintain all necessary project documentation, including business cases, project initiation documents, project plans, risk registers, etc.
- Ensure that the scope and deliverables of projects will result in operational benefits, and implement means of measuring these; identify potential benefits and assist in the development of a benefits realisation plan.
- Organise, directly manage and monitor project team resources to ensure their effective use while delivering against agreed objectives.
- Plan and conduct project meetings, produce and circulate timely reports and follow‑up actions.
- Lead service‑level workshops with admin, management and clinical teams.
- Produce presentation and communications material to introduce change projects and delivery plans, and to communicate progress to key stakeholders.
- Provide scheduled highlight and exception reports per project, tracking milestones for circulation to senior project leads.
- Identify risks and support actions to mitigate them to ensure successful delivery to time, cost and quality.
- Coordinate minutes, agendas and papers for distribution in preparation for meetings in a timely manner.
- Support evaluation and audit of projects across sites and organisations.
- Promote inclusivity and diversity, ensuring all projects are designed and delivered in line with equality, diversity and inclusion principles.
- Support the management of contracts, specifications for tenders and awarding of new contracts.
- Manage a delegated budget for own area of work, ensuring best value for money, signing off invoices, monitoring expenditure and providing budgetary reports.
- Actively monitor expenditure against budget and address problems early.
- Support the commissioning and procurement of products, equipment, services, systems and facilities as required for delivery of the project.
- Line‑manage a small team of junior project and programme staff, motivating and encouraging them to strive for service and personal improvement.
- Demonstrate strong ability to manage, motivate and develop staff.
- Support engagement plans to ensure positive and effective relations with team members, clients and key stakeholders.
- Support strategies to achieve acceptance, consensus and alignment of views from senior managers and clinicians.
- Contribute to delivery plans, ensuring they are regularly updated for all projects.
- Support specific project‑management training and model practices to internal staff and external stakeholders and partners.
- Collaborate with regional stakeholders to ensure broad input in development and delivery of projects, including patient and public voice.
- Monitor and maintain project information management systems, databases and data collection systems that provide accurate, timely data.
- Interpret policies and protocols to support the project consistent with Trust standards.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of project‑management techniques and be responsible for developing and maintaining own CPD programme.
- Undertake primary and secondary research, audits and evaluations as required.
- Take autonomous decisions for specific areas of the directorate, assessing impact of change and balancing risks and priorities.
- Proactively identify and address significant issues within and across directorates.
