AV Dawson is a multimodal freight logistics and port operator based on the River Tees in Middlesbrough. The firm has an enviable reputation and over 85 years’ experience in the Port and Logistics sector. The AV Dawson group is made up of a number of subsidiary businesses including Port of Middlesbrough Limited, AV Dawson Transport Limited, AVD Industrial and Port Services Limited and ships agency Cockfield Knight.

The group employs approximately 200 people across the region and is committed to honouring the past, protecting what we have built and inspiring the next generation.

AV Dawson Group is looking for a Business Development Manager to drive sustainable growth across the business, with a key focus on the Port of Middlesbrough.

This is a high-impact, outward-facing role where you’ll proactively identify, develop and convert new business opportunities while promoting the full AV Dawson Group offering. You’ll play a key role in building a strong sales pipeline, strengthening customer relationships, and positioning AV Dawson as a leading provider across port operations, transport, rail, property and events.

Key Responsibilities:

• Promoting the full AV Dawson Group offer
• Identifying and developing new opportunities across existing and emerging markets
• Building and managing a robust pipeline from first contact through to handover
• Developing strong relationships with customers, prospects, and industry stakeholders
• Representing AV Dawson at networking events, exhibitions and conferences
• Working closely with General Managers and operational teams to understand services and capabilities
• Identifying cross-selling opportunities across the Group
• Sharing market insights and customer feedback internally

As a successful candidate you will have:

• Proven experience in business development, sales, or commercial roles
• A strong background in a B2B environment
• Experience managing pipelines and using CRM systems
• Experience in logistics, ports, transport, property, or infrastructure sectors
• Experience supporting or organising corporate or customer events

Ideally you will be:

• A confident communicator with the ability to represent a business externally
• Excellent at relationship-building and networking
