Role Overview
Merton College is looking for a Finance Officer to join a busy Accounts Receivable and Credit Control team. The role involves chasing outstanding debt, processing transactions, and maintaining the Sales Ledger database in line with the Group’s financial procedures and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Chase outstanding debt and manage credit control processes.
- Generate sales invoices from requisitions and ensure the sales ledger is updated with all cash receipts.
- Receipting cash, credit card and cheque payments in accordance with Finance operating procedures.
- Operate the petty cash till for payment claims when required.
- Resolve queries raised by customers and students, liaising with budget holders and internal teams.
- Manage deadlines effectively and juggle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Use accounting software, Adobe, Excel, Outlook, Word and other relevant IT tools confidently.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience in credit control processes and dealing directly with customers.
- Excellent organisational, communication (written & verbal) and IT proficiency.
- Attention to detail, accuracy and calmness under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Office suite (Adobe, Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Team player who can manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Location & Working Arrangements
Based at Merton College in Morden, Surrey, with an option for hybrid working (College and home) following successful completion of the probationary period.
