The Specialist Teaching Service is expanding sensory support for children with hearing, vision or multi-sensory needs. We are seeking to appoint a Team Manager to manage a combined sensory team of Specialist Teachers to work across Lancashire supporting children with SEND, settings and their families.
Please note that whilst the role is to lead and manage a hearing, vision and/or multi-sensory needs team, we welcome applications from those with significant SEND leadership and management experience who may not be a qualified teacher of vision impaired (QTVI) / multi-sensory impaired (QTMSI) / D/deaf (QToD) learners, but they are willing to train. In the absence of being a QTVI / QTMSI / QToD, demonstrating an understanding of sensory barriers to learning and the impact on the child or young person is key. Additionally, using examples of when you have supported children with a sensory impairment to improve outcomes will support being successful in this role. This post is a full-time management post required to work 32.5 hours across 5 days term-time only.
The Specialist Teaching Service is a specialist peripatetic specialist teaching service that supports the local Authority and Lancashire Settings and Schools in meeting the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. It is a very exciting time to join the service further developing support services for children and young people with sensory needs in Lancashire. The service consists of Specialist Teaching Teams highly qualified and experienced Specialist Teachers, Specialist Higher Level Teaching Assistants, Deaf Role Model, Habilitation support offer and Sensory Technicians. We work closely with parents and other agencies to support children and young people in a range of settings including at home, early years settings, schools and colleges. From birth (0-25) we support the youngest children with SEND through Portage and Early Years Sensory Support.
Role will consist of:
- Leading and managing a QTVI/QTMSI/QToD team of specialist teachers.
- Managing effective allocations and caseloads of the Specialist Teachers within the team whilst undertaking a reduced caseload themselves.
- Implementing effective monitoring and evaluation strategies within the QTVI/QTMSI/QToD Team.
- Being accountable for service delivery and staff development within the QTVI/QTMSI/QToD team.
- Contribute to wider strategic Specialist Teaching Service developments through STS manager meetings and supervision.
- Ensuring a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of VI & deafblind / MSI best practice, specialist equipment, guidance and legislation.
- Supporting children, young people with SEND and their parents/ carers within home and educational settings.
- Liaise with SENCO's, teachers and support staff within educational settings where necessary and appropriate.
- Assessing children and young people to ensure appropriate outcomes are set.
- Working in partnership with educational settings, parents & carers and other agencies to meet the outcomes outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans.
- Managing a caseload effectively.
- Using IT effectively to support both teaching and administration.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Specialist Teaching Service QTVI/QTMSI/QToD Team Manager who will contribute to the key work of the Specialist Teaching Service by:
- Have strong moral SEND values with the vision and determination to make a difference.
- Are able to manage and lead a team through a period of change.
- Advocate for the needs of children & young people who are visually impaired / deafblind / multisensory / D/deaf impaired.
- Experience of successful working both in mainstream and specialist settings would be desirable.
- Be committed to an inclusive approach to education.
- To contribute to and be accountable for improving service delivery and outcomes for all children and young people.
- The successful candidate will either be a Qualified Teacher for Visual Impairment or Multisensory Impairment or will have significant SEND leadership experience.
- Can show evidence of experience of working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs to ensure they receive a high-quality educational experience that meets their needs.
- Are able to work collaboratively with children receiving SEND support or those with EHCPS, their families and schools / colleges.
- Are able to provide support and challenge various settings, establishing clear actions for all partners, and evaluate the progress being made against these.
- Can confidently model teaching approaches to staff across educational settings, all curriculum areas and raise standards for children with SEND.
- This post is not suitable for ECTs.
