An established building consultancy organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Registered Building Inspector to join its Building Control function at a pivotal time for the profession.
This is a senior, hands‑on role suited to an RBI looking to apply their technical expertise, support team development, and contribute to safe, compliant and sustainable buildings across a varied portfolio of projects.
The Role
You will undertake the full range of duties expected of a Registered Building Inspector, operating in line with:
The Building Act 1984
Building Safety Act 2022
RBCA regulations, Operational Standards and professional codes of conduct
You will manage both restricted and unrestricted activities, advise a wide range of stakeholders, and play a mentoring role within the team.
Key responsibilities include:
Carrying out site inspections and plan checking in accordance with Building Regulations
Providing expert technical advice to developers, clients and internal stakeholders
Dealing with dangerous structures, including participation in an out‑of‑hours rota
Liaising with fire authorities, planning, utilities and other statutory bodies
Supporting service performance, financial monitoring and fee recovery
Assisting with workload allocation and supervision of colleagues
Maintaining accurate digital records and reports
Preparing evidence and supporting enforcement action where required
The role involves autonomous working across site, office and remote locations.
About You
You will be:
A Registered Building Inspector, holding a minimum Class 2D licence (or above)
Experienced in both site‑based and office‑based functions under the Building Regulations
Confident working with complex legislation, including dangerous structures
Comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels, even in challenging situations
An effective mentor who understands the limits of their own competence
You will also need:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good digital capability (e.g. Microsoft or equivalent systems)
Excellent time management and planning skills
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
