We are looking for an enthusiastic consultant to join our Orthodontic department. The successful candidate will undertake specialist orthodontic treatment for patients with complex orthodontic problems in the outpatient clinic. The role consists of six four-hour Programmed Activities (PAs) each week, split across Southend & Broomfield Hospitals. These PAs include clinical sessions and administrative work related to patients being treated.
The appointee will work in the Orthodontic Departments of both hospitals, providing specialist treatment, running new patient clinics, review clinics, and participating in Orthognathic hypodontia MDTs. The appointee will assist other consultant orthodontists to run and develop the Orthodontic Department and will be employed by Southend University Hospital with management led by Southend University Hospital.

At Broomfield Hospital, the appointee will run the clinical service with their Orthodontic consultant colleague, liaise with colleagues and managers to ensure smooth service operation, and jointly manage day‑to‑day clinical governance. The appointee will develop the service to improve care for local patients and primary care providers, and be accountable to the Orthodontic Clinical Lead and Divisional managers.
They will attend to administrative matters, correspondence, data collection, audit, and liaise with secondary care and referring primary care practitioners to uphold departmental values and protocols.
The appointee will supervise and teach specialty registrars with other consultant orthodontists. The department has a strong reputation for clinical training, linked to the East of England Training Programme and Barts and The London NHS Trust. The successful candidate will actively participate in clinical specialty training, serve as named Clinical Supervisor for all trainees, and may become Educational Supervisor for one or more trainees in future.

£109,725 to £145,478 a year per annum (pro rata for part time).
