Band 6 Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner - Solihull Perinatal Team

The closing date is 10 May 2026

The Perinatal Mental Health Service provides multidisciplinary specialised care throughout the West Midlands, treating mothers with mental health problems during pregnancy and in the first year post‑partum. It also offers community outreach and a 10‑bedded inpatient unit at the Barberry. The NHS Long Term Plan will expand perinatal services to cover approximately 10% of the birth rate, seeing women for up to 2 years postnatally.

Solihull Perinatal Team offers specialist perinatal care for women living in Solihull Borough or registered with a Solihull GP who experience moderate to severe mental illness during the perinatal period.

We are seeking an additional mental health practitioner from a nursing or social work background to contribute their clinical skills and coordinate a specialist caseload.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should have a genuine interest in working with women and families during the perinatal period, excellent communication and multi‑agency liaison skills, and strong knowledge of safeguarding. Experience in perinatal mental health is desirable but not essential. We offer a robust induction programme, regular supervision, and ongoing training.

The service is committed to being representative of our local community and to overcoming barriers women may face in accessing care. We welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of ethnicity, age, gender, disability, religion/belief or sexual orientation.

Candidates must have access to a vehicle for work purposes and hold valid registration with the relevant professional body.
