An established independent accountancy practice is looking to appoint a Head of Accounting Services to take ownership of a core function within the firm.
This role sits at the point where delivery, leadership, and client ownership meet. It offers responsibility for a significant portfolio alongside direct involvement in how the function is structured, managed, and developed.
The position is suited to an experienced Manager seeking greater influence and autonomy, or a Senior Manager looking to step into a more defined leadership role within a less layered environment.
The Role
- Responsibility for a portfolio of non-audit clients, typically up to £10m turnover
- Oversight of statutory accounts, management accounts, and associated advisory work
- Leadership of a team of approximately 12, with accountability for structure, performance, and development
- Ownership of the payroll function, ensuring compliance and consistent delivery
- Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, providing commercially focused support
- Working closely with Partners on workflow, resourcing, and service standards
- Input into operational and strategic decisions affecting the wider business services function
The Candidate
- ACA or ACCA qualified
- Strong background within general practice, ideally focused on business services
- Track record of managing a client portfolio and reviewing work to a high standard
- Experience leading and developing teams across multiple levels
- Commercial awareness with the confidence to engage directly with SME clients
- Exposure to payroll oversight would be beneficial
