Technical Licensing Officer

Overview

We are seeking a Technical Licensing Officer to join Manchester City Council's Licensing Unit. You will work within a team that regulates a range of people and places to protect the public, promote growth of the city, and ensure legal compliance.

Responsibilities

Process a broad range of licence applications, including:

• Taxi and private hire licences
• Alcohol and entertainment venues
• Late‑night takeaways
• Gambling businesses
• Street trading
• Cosmetic treatments

Work closely with colleagues, applicants and partner agencies; develop knowledge of legislation; deliver high quality customer service; solve problems; meet deadlines; and hold ownership of decisions.

Requirements

• Right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to plan and organise multiple tasks effectively.
• Ability to make sound decisions and explain reasoning.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills for administrative duties.
• Financial management skills and accuracy in record keeping.

Experience working in a local licensing authority and interpretation of legislation is beneficial but not essential.
