Job Overview
The role provides specialist adult audiological assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice to patients and their carers. It includes complex, non‑routine activities as well as routine work for the adult population.
Responsibilities
The Audiologist will work autonomously with indirect supervision, often lone working at a variety of community locations. Key duties include:
- Performing adult audiological assessment and management following up-to-date BSA recommended procedures and departmental policies.
- Making accurate decisions and onward referrals to radiology imaging under indirect supervision.
- Writing accurate reports and developing individual management plans for each patient.
- Presenting findings to multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Informing referring health professionals/Doctors of the diagnosis and future care package.
- Communicating results to patients and carers based on referrals from ENT consultants, general practitioners and other professional groups.
- Co‑creating care plans with other professional groups and monitoring their suitability at key stages.
- Making further referrals to other professionals as appropriate.
- Assisting in counselling patients/families/carers through distressing and emotional circumstances.
- Evaluating and exchanging non‑standard hearing aids, including CROS aids for adults, using real ear in‑situ measurements.
- Assisting in day‑to‑day departmental operations and specific clinical responsibilities directed by senior management.
- Participating regularly in ongoing research and development activities.
- Maintaining knowledge of developments within audiology and ensuring continual professional development, including post‑graduate study in a specialist area (e.g., vestibular or tinnitus).
- Performing other duties as requested by the Head of Department or Deputy.
Qualifications & Experience
- BSc in Audiology or equivalent qualification. Applications from foundation degree holders who wish to top‑up to the full BSc will be considered, with a training period before full qualification.
- Registered with the HCPC or AHCS professional body.
- Experience working in an NHS audiology department.
- Expected to undertake postgraduate study in vestibular and/or tinnitus specialism.
- Full UK driving licence required for weekly travel to community locations.
