Category Development Analyst – Travel Retail
York (Hybrid)
Own the insight that shapes global retail decisions
Shelftrak is redefining how brands and retailers understand in-store execution.
We use AI-powered image recognition to analyse thousands of retail fixtures globally—delivering SKU-level insight on category share, pricing, promotions, and compliance.
Our data is used by leading global FMCG brands to influence real decisions in one of the most competitive environments in retail: airports.
This is not a reporting role.
You will be expected to turn data into clear commercial direction—and confidently influence client thinking.
What you’ll own
As a Category Development Analyst, you’ll operate at the intersection of data, insight, and commercial decision‑making.
You will:
- Lead analysis of SKU-level data across global markets to identify clear commercial opportunities and risks
- Build client‑ready outputs in Power BI and PowerPoint—focused on insight, not just data
- Translate complex datasets into compelling, insight‑led narratives and strategic recommendations
- Present directly to clients, influencing category strategy, space decisions, and promotional approach
- Challenge and refine client thinking using evidence‑based insight
- Partner with the commercial team to shape joint business plans and client engagements
- Ensure insights drive real‑world action, not just reporting outputs
- Develop deep expertise in travel retail dynamics and shopper behaviour
What we’re looking for
Must have:
- Proven experience in fmcg category development, insights, or retail analytics
- Deep understanding of category levers (space, range, pricing, promotions)
- Strong track record of turning data into commercial recommendations—not just analysis
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large, complex datasets
- Strong experience using PowerPoint and Power BI to create high‑quality, client‑ready outputs
- Experience in a client‑facing role, with confidence presenting to senior stakeholders
- Ability to tell a clear, persuasive story with data and influence decision‑making
Nice to have:
- Experience working across multiple markets or regions
Why Shelftrak
- Direct exposure to global brands and senior decision‑makers
- A role where you own insight and influence outcomes—not just produce reports
- Fast‑growing business with clear ambition and momentum
- Opportunity to build deep expertise in a high‑value, under‑analysed retail channel
- Hybrid working with flexibility
