Birmingham, Alabama (On-Site, 15 minutes outside of Downtown Birmingham)
A well-established, multi-entity organization is seeking a Director of Training & Development to build and lead its enterprise learning function.
This is a newly created role designed to elevate how the organization develops its people—starting with critical knowledge transfer and expanding into a comprehensive, company-wide training strategy.
The Opportunity
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building from the ground up.
You’ll partner directly with executive leadership to assess current capabilities, design impactful learning experiences, and deliver programs that improve performance across the organization.
In the early stages, this is a hands‑on role—designing, facilitating, and implementing training yourself. Over time, there will be an opportunity to shape and scale the function.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Conducting a company-wide training needs assessment across multiple business units
- Designing and delivering training programs (in-person, virtual, and blended learning)
- Building a structured knowledge transfer program for key business functions
- Partnering with leaders to align training initiatives with business priorities
- Establishing metrics to evaluate effectiveness and continuously improve programs
- Supporting onboarding, leadership development, and ongoing employee growth initiatives
- Identifying and implementing tools, systems, and processes to support learning at scale
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a builder and a doer—someone who can think strategically and execute at a high level.
- Experience building or significantly enhancing a training and development function
- Strong facilitation skills across a variety of audiences (individual contributors to leadership)
- Background in instructional design and adult learning principles
- Ability to assess needs, prioritize effectively, and execute with limited infrastructure
- Experience working cross-functionally in a multi-department environment
- Comfort operating in a highly visible role with direct interaction with senior leadership
What Will Set You Apart
- Experience developing training for distributed or multi-location organizations
- Proven ability to drive adoption of training initiatives (not just deliver content)
- Strong business acumen and the ability to connect learning to performance outcomes
- Experience launching or improving onboarding or knowledge transfer programs
- Based in the greater Birmingham, Alabama area
- On-site role with some travel across business locations
Compensation
- Competitive base salary in the $130K–$150K range, with potential for additional incentives
Why This Role
This is an opportunity to step into a highly visible role and build something meaningful.
You’ll have the ability to influence how people are developed across the organization while partnering closely with leadership to shape long-term capability.
