Consultant Psychiatrist – St Helier Hospital, Wrythe Lane, Carshalton, Sutton, London
Full‑time fixed‑term locum covering 10 full‑time positions (DCC 7.5 PA, SPA 2.5 PA) from 22 Jul 2026 to 21 Jan 2027. As medical lead you will work closely with the Team Manager and other team members to ensure safe, efficient, and effective service delivery that meets the Trust’s Key Performance Indicators.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide medical leadership to the St Helier Hospital Liaison Psychiatry Team and collaborate with the team manager to maintain high standards of care.
- Participate in audit and clinical governance activities, resolve issues independently, and raise concerns to the team manager when necessary.
- Deliver a liaison service for inpatients, outpatients with physical illnesses but mental health needs, and for hospital staff requiring psychiatric advice on treatment and management of individual patients.
- Assess and initiate treatment for patients presenting with self‑harm, including development of a risk‑management plan.
- Assess and treat patients presenting with a mental health crisis at the Emergency Department.
- Provide support and advice to carers.
- Educate and train acute hospital staff on assessment, management and referral of patients with mental illness.
Contract & Terms
Fixed‑term locum: 22 Jul 2026 – 21 Jan 2027. Full‑time role covering 10 PA (DCC 7.5 PA, SPA 2.5 PA).
