Logistics Officer (Resilience & Specialist Operations)

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Logistics Officer to support the effective day‑to‑day running of the Resilience & Specialist Operations Department. The role provides essential logistical support across the Trust’s resilience and specialist operational teams, including HART and SORT, ensuring that equipment, vehicles, training resources and operational assets are available, maintained and ready for use at all times.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide logistical support: Work closely with Resilience Managers, HART Managers and Officers to plan and prioritise workloads, ensuring the effective delivery of resilience, HART and SORT activities by maintaining, recording and replenishing equipment, consumables and stores.
  2. Manage departmental stores and logistics areas: Ensure accurate stock control, stock rotation and safe disposal of expired or surplus items; order equipment and supplies using Trust systems, liaising with Procurement and internal departments as required.
  3. Prepare sites for training and incidents: Prepare training and operational sites ahead of exercises, incidents and training sessions, carry out routine maintenance and basic fault identification on equipment, arrange repairs and servicing with approved suppliers.
  4. Deliver and collect equipment: Respond to short‑notice requests, support deployment, recovery, set‑up and break‑down of equipment for incidents, exercises, training and large‑scale events across the SCAS area.
  5. Vehicle management support: Assist with departmental vehicle management, coordinate with Fleet Services and the Operational Support Desk to ensure vehicles are serviced, stocked and compliant.
  6. Maintain accurate records: Use Trust ICT systems, provide basic equipment familiarisation to staff, ensure compliance with health and safety, IPC and governance policies, work flexibly across the Trust footprint.
  7. Communicate effectively: Update Resilience & Specialist Operations Managers and HART Managers via email and phone in relation to the progress of daily duties; liaise with stakeholders, commercial businesses and partners when necessary.
  8. Drive and operate Trust vehicles: Drive any vehicle owned, hired or on loan to the South Central Ambulance NHS Trust, ensuring proper licensing and adherence to Trust Policy (CPP19 – Driving and Care of Trust Vehicles).
  9. Identify and troubleshoot faults: Identify faults and problem‑solve with departmental equipment (e.g., detection equipment) and report findings to relevant officers.
  10. Stock maintenance: Ensure the Central Logistics Unit and any other site used by the Resilience and Hazardous Area Response Team have clean, tidy, accurately recorded stock levels, with rotation and disposal where required.
  11. Support training team: Work with the administration team to ensure each training site has sufficient supplies and equipment before commencement.
  12. Order supplies: Use Trust systems to order supplies and equipment as requested or when required, coordinating with other departments.
  13. Maintain equipment: Undertake routine maintenance of clinical devices as outlined in manufacturer’s instructions; arrange for repair and maintenance of equipment not serviceable within the Trust with agreed suppliers.
  14. Assist with equipment readiness: Collect and ready any equipment used at incidents or exercises, including handling indirect exposure to distressing situations.
  15. Deliver supplies efficiently: Transport heavy and bulky supplies to locations or individual schemes across the operating area, maximizing productivity to reduce excessive travel.
  16. Respond to short‑notice requests: Provide rapid response to broken/missing/damaged equipment ensuring uninterrupted service delivery and accurate information flow.
  17. Stock vehicle supplies: Keep vehicle appropriately stocked with equipment and consumables for rapid response to issues.
  18. Vehicle database management: Liaise with South Central Fleet Services, Operational Support Desk and relevant managers to maintain accurate vehicle database, oversee MOTs, servicing, and arrange temporary vehicles when required.
  19. Provide vehicle status reports: Deliver regular reports on vehicle status to managers, identifying issues and working to resolve them in a timely fashion.
  20. Assist in exercise set‑up: Support Resilience Officers with the set‑up and break‑down of exercises, including scene and tent setup or transportation of vehicles to sites.
  21. Training provision: Provide familiarisation training as prescribed to staff when delivering/maintaining Resilience equipment.
  22. Personal development training: Undertake any personal development training deemed necessary by the Resilience & Specialist Operations managers.
  23. Assist with training course set‑up: Support Resilience Officers in the set‑up/break‑down of induction or other training courses.
  24. Logistical planning for large events: Support the Resilience and Specialist Operations managers in planning large events (e.g., CPD days, local conferences), liaising with external partners.
  25. Sort vehicle availability: Take responsibility for SORT Vehicles, ensuring maximum availability, maintenance and stocking with clinical and promotional items.
  26. Assist other Trust areas: Assist other areas of the Trust as directed by the managers when required.
  27. Work seamlessly with staff: Collaborate across the department to ensure a joined‑up approach within the team.
  28. Flexibility and time management: Demonstrate a flexible, committed attitude to unsociable hours, effective time management, autonomous decision‑making in urgent situations.
  29. Resource utilisation: Plan own time effectively using all available resources and colleagues to maximise performance and productivity.
  30. ICT usage: Utilise ICT programmes including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word), Proactis and Proclus system (training provided).
  31. Audits: Undertake audits of equipment owned by the department and in community use, ensuring routine testing and maintenance.
