We are currently recruiting for a part‑time Specialist Diabetes Psychologist to join the Community Diabetes Team at Surrey Downs Health & Care. The role will provide specialist psychological assessment, therapy, and consultation to patients with complex diabetes‑related psychosocial issues and support the multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive, specialist assessment services for patients referred by the Diabetes team, integrating psychological tests, self‑report measures, and semi‑structured interviews.
- Identify the nature, severity and complexity of clients' problems and communicate findings sensitively to clients, referrers and health professionals.
- Evaluate and decide on treatment options, drawing on a range of theoretical and therapeutic models and considering historical, developmental and medical factors.
- Advise clients, family members and other professionals on managing difficulties and arrange referrals to other services when necessary.
- Implement a range of evidence‑based psychological interventions with individuals, couples and families, continually refining formulations and hypotheses.
- Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the efficiency of the Clinical Psychology Service, including assessment, treatment and discharge decisions.
- For patients with multiple needs, liaise with other local specialist services and provide specialist advice and guidance regarding case management.
- Develop educational materials for use with the Diabetes team to inform clients about psychological aspects of diabetes.
- Provide expertise, advice and support to facilitate effective psychological care across the team.
- Ensure that team members have access to a framework for understanding the psychosocial difficulties presented by clients, through dissemination of research and theory.
