We are currently recruiting for a part‑time Specialist Diabetes Psychologist to join the Community Diabetes Team at Surrey Downs Health & Care. The role will provide specialist psychological assessment, therapy, and consultation to patients with complex diabetes‑related psychosocial issues and support the multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide comprehensive, specialist assessment services for patients referred by the Diabetes team, integrating psychological tests, self‑report measures, and semi‑structured interviews.
  2. Identify the nature, severity and complexity of clients' problems and communicate findings sensitively to clients, referrers and health professionals.
  3. Evaluate and decide on treatment options, drawing on a range of theoretical and therapeutic models and considering historical, developmental and medical factors.
  4. Advise clients, family members and other professionals on managing difficulties and arrange referrals to other services when necessary.
  5. Implement a range of evidence‑based psychological interventions with individuals, couples and families, continually refining formulations and hypotheses.
  6. Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the efficiency of the Clinical Psychology Service, including assessment, treatment and discharge decisions.
  7. For patients with multiple needs, liaise with other local specialist services and provide specialist advice and guidance regarding case management.
  8. Develop educational materials for use with the Diabetes team to inform clients about psychological aspects of diabetes.
  9. Provide expertise, advice and support to facilitate effective psychological care across the team.
  10. Ensure that team members have access to a framework for understanding the psychosocial difficulties presented by clients, through dissemination of research and theory.
