An exciting new role within then Numatic Quality team based in Chard, Somerset.
In the role of Senior Engineer – Supplier Quality, you will be responsible for supplier quality, building relationships with our suppliers, ensuring the quality and compliance of components and raw materials delivered to Numatic meet our expectations. Coordinating with suppliers and supporting the QA and Procurement teams during investigations and non-conformance resolutions. Using statistical and proven QA tools to monitor supplier performance and drive continuous improvements.
Responsibilities
- Assess and approve new suppliers through audits and capability studies.
- Evaluate supplier quality systems to ensure compliance with standards (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Monitor supplier performance using key metrics (PPM, OTIF, NCRs).
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions (CAPA) for supplier-related issues.
- Ensure suppliers comply with internal and external specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate problem-solving activities with suppliers and chair technical reviews, sharing findings with senior management teams (e.g., 8D, DMAIC).
- Drive supplier improvement plans and corrective actions to reduce defects and improve performance.
- Support processes such as APQP as required by product lifecycle.
- Maintain supplier quality documentation including scorecards, audit reports, and quality records.
- Prepare and present supplier performance reports to internal stakeholders.
- Act as a liaison between the company and its suppliers on quality-related issues.
- Support cross-functional teams in the design and development phases to ensure supplier involvement early in the product lifecycle.
About You
- HND/Degree in Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in supplier quality or a similar role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of quality systems and methodologies (e.g., ISO 9001, Lean, Six Sigma).
- Proficient in quality tools (FMEA, SPC, MSA, Control Plans, 8D).
- Excellent analytical, statistical, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Experience with audits, supplier development, and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent IT skills – ability to present complex data in meaningful reports.
- Ability and wiliness to travel to suppliers (both domestic and international) as required.
- Experience of managing a team of QA Inspectors/Engineers, mentoring junior engineers
- Awareness of international regulations such as RoHS / REACH
- Experience in SPC (Statistical Process Control, CPK, CP etc)
- Proficient in applied statistical analysis and tools e.g. mini tab
