We are looking for a Band 3 Scheduling Officer to join our SACT scheduling team in Cumbria.
The role will be an office based admin position dealing with telephone queries from patients undergoing cancer treatment, scheduling appointments for systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) and working as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team involved in the patient pathway. The role is fast-paced, requiring strict attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
Responsibilities
- Receive referrals for cancer treatment and schedule patients for out-patient chemotherapy.
- Book patients for pre-assessment clinics and SACT treatments.
- Manage deferrals of patient appointments and maintain a busy email inbox, responding to queries in a timely manner.
- Answer telephone queries and communicate with patients and relatives.
- Liaise with nursing and medical staff.
- Coordinate the patient pathway, ensuring waiting-time targets are met and cancer treatment plans are delivered on schedule.
- Allocate appropriate appointment slots for each stage of the treatment process, liaising with relevant staff as necessary.
- Maintain awareness of service delivery developments and contribute to implementing change within the service.
- Participate in all aspects of the administration service within Chemotherapy, contributing to a consistently high standard of patient care.
- Ensure case notes, x-rays and results are available for commencement of patient chemotherapy treatment and that case notes are correctly maintained following departmental guidelines and compliance with legislation (Caldicott Guidelines etc.).
Qualifications
- Excellent computing skills and the ability to use the NHS systems for scheduling and data entry.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with patients, relatives and clinical staff.
- An understanding of cancer waiting times or experience in a cancer-related role is highly advantageous.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
