About the Role & Practice

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join Blaircourt Equine Veterinary Clinic, a well-established and highly respected equine practice situated in the Essex countryside, close to Chelmsford.

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to become a key part of our dynamic and sociable team on a permanent, long-term basis. This role would suit a senior clinician who enjoys a varied caseload, including ambulatory work, with a particular emphasis on orthopaedic and performance investigations alongside surgical procedures.

You’ll play an integral role within the clinical team, delivering excellent patient care while supporting the ongoing development of colleagues around you. We are looking for someone with strong communication skills, a collaborative approach to patient care, and a natural ability to mentor and support others.

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with participation in a shared out-of-hours rota.

We provide services to a diverse client base ranging from leisure horse owners through to international competition yards.

Our main clinic and branch practice are both well-equipped with:

• Digital radiography
• Ultrasound
• Endoscopy and gastroscopy
• Laser therapy and surgical equipment
• Arthroscopy facilities
• Gait analysis technology
• Specialised dental equipment
• Examination rooms and surgical facilities
• Stabling and isolation facilities
• In-house laboratory facilities

You’ll be supported by an experienced and committed team across management, reception, and nursing, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, clinical standards, and continuous development.

Blaircourt Equine Veterinary Clinic is ideally located in the Essex countryside, close to Chelmsford, offering the perfect balance between rural practice life and excellent connectivity. The area benefits from strong transport links into London and across the South East, while also providing access to beautiful countryside and a thriving equestrian community.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Senior Equine Veterinary Surgeon, you will:

• Manage a varied equine caseload including ambulatory, orthopaedic, and performance-related investigations
• Perform and support a range of equine surgical procedures
• Deliver exceptional levels of patient and client care
• Support and mentor colleagues within the clinical team
• Contribute positively to the continued development of the practice and clinical services
• Build strong relationships with clients ranging from leisure owners to professional competition yards

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated equine veterinary surgeon who thrives within a collaborative team environment. You’ll bring:

• RCVS registration with a Veterinary degree
• Significant experience within equine practice
• Confidence managing a varied ambulatory and clinical caseload
• A strong interest in orthopaedic and performance investigations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• A proactive, flexible, and supportive approach to practice life
• Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues
