This exciting, new and developing role is part of the perioperative team working with Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Registered Nurses and Allied Health Care Professionals in our Theatre Complex.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, providing direct and indirect care to patients.
- Perform circulating and scrub duties for a range of surgical cases, supporting the anaesthetist in the administration of local anaesthetics and monitoring the patient intraoperatively and postoperatively.
- Ensure compliance with all departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanour, upholding the Trust’s values and behaviours.
- Foster professional and courteous relationships with staff and patients, respecting equality, diversity and patient privacy.
- Prepare and ready all equipment and instrument trays required for surgical procedures.
- Carry out safety checks as the second checker, including swabs, instruments and needles.
- Participate in the theatre team as a circulator, performing surgical scrubbing, gowning, gloving and aseptic preparation of instruments.
- Assist in the preparation of the anaesthetic room and patient for the administration of local anaesthetics.
- Support the anaesthetist or subtenons practitioner in monitoring the patient and recording vital signs accurately and legibly.
- Assist in the recovery phase of the patient’s journey, ensuring completion of notes and relevant paperwork and assessing readiness for ward transfer.
