Role Overview
To work as a Musculoskeletal Advanced Physiotherapist Practitioner in a community setting that is delivering an MSK Single Point of Access service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert and highly developed musculoskeletal assessment, diagnosis and appropriate onward management of patients presenting with chronic and acute musculoskeletal problems to the service referred via their GP, self‑referral or MSK physiotherapists.
- Triage orthopaedic, pain and rheumatology secondary care referrals independently on electronic referral management systems.
- Make onward appropriate consultant and/or physiotherapy referrals and to discharge patients directly from the clinic.
- Use expert clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advice to other musculoskeletal staff whilst maintaining a case load as an autonomous practitioner which includes highly complex patients.
- Responsible for the operational management and the planning, co‑ordinating, delivering and evaluating of the Hounslow and Richmond Secondary Care Referral Triage Musculoskeletal 2.
- Responsible for leadership in maintaining and improving all aspects of clinical governance, evidence‑based practice and quality assurance in collaboration with the Consultant Physiotherapist in the HCH NHS Trust musculoskeletal service.
- Develop in conjunction with other agencies evidence based clinical care pathways for assessment and management of patients with neuro‑musculoskeletal pain across primary and secondary healthcare settings.
- Assist the musculoskeletal service manager in the operational management and the planning, co‑ordinating, delivering and evaluating of the HCH NHS Trust musculoskeletal physiotherapy service.
- Take a lead clinical and managerial role in the supervision, teaching and appraisal of Band 7, 6 & 5 Physiotherapists, technical instructors and assistant Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy students and other members of the multi‑disciplinary team as appropriate.
- Assist the Hounslow Planned Care Divisional Manager, Musculoskeletal Service Clinical Manager, Consultant Physiotherapist, and other lead physiotherapists in the provision of the Musculoskeletal service as necessary.
- Advise other health professionals and provide expert specialist advice regarding type of intervention and its impact related to pathology.
- Be a key contributor to development of new services through membership of multidisciplinary steering group and propose changes, develop protocols and procedures which impact on other professions working in specialist area.
- Undertake audit/research projects related to the post and service, and within the Musculoskeletal Service.
- Comply with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Guidelines and Health Professions Council Code of Professional Conduct and all other relevant national and local policies and procedures.
