Electrical Project Engineer (Project based)
Location: Exeter, operating on projects across the Southwest. Employment: Permanent full-time. Salary: £60k plus pension, holiday, life cover, sickness cover, and company car.
Role Overview
The employer seeks an accomplished Electrical Project Engineer to join the MEP team to deliver the electrical system installation for mechanical, electrical and plumbing projects across the southwest area. The successful candidate will ensure the electrical installation is delivered safely, efficiently, and within budget, while upholding the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management: Oversee electrical elements of the project, ensuring alignment with programme goals, budgets, and milestones.
- Planning & Coordination: Develop detailed project plans and schedules; collaborate closely with MEP disciplines, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Resource Management: Allocate labour, materials, and equipment to achieve project objectives.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure electrical installations comply with relevant standards; conduct inspections and audits.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce robust health and safety practices, addressing risks proactively.
- Financial Oversight: Monitor and control expenditure; provide accurate financial and progress reports.
- Risk Management: Identify risks and implement mitigation and contingency plans.
- Client Relations: Maintain good professional relations across supply chain, main contractor and client contacts; deliver updates and ensure satisfaction.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate project records, including permits, contracts, change orders, and reports.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor supervisors and subcontractors, fostering collaboration and performance excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience in electrical engineering and project management with a track record of delivering large-scale MEP projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, BS 7671 wiring regulations, and relevant codes; proficiency in project management tools/software.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams in high‑pressure project environments.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent decision‑making ability to manage complex project challenges.
- Rigorous focus on compliance, safety and quality standards.
Ideal Core Electrical Qualifications
- Part 1 & 2 Electrical Installation (or equivalent).
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) – essential for compliance and safety.
- City & Guilds 2391 – Inspection & Testing certification.
- JIB Gold Card.
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) – required for site management.
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Core electrical qualifications (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds).
- Ideally HNC / HND in Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
- Proven experience as an Electrical Project Engineer.
- Strong background in Health & Safety management, including CDM Regulations.
- Commercially astute with excellent financial and project management skills.
- Strong client relationship management and communication skills.
- Ability to lead teams, manage change and deliver projects successfully under pressure.
