We’re working with a specialist SEN school in South Shields that supports pupils aged 3–16 with a wide range of additional needs, including autism (ASD), speech and language needs, moderate to severe learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and social, emotional and mental health needs.

This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 3:00pm, where no two days look the same, and every day counts.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be supporting pupils across both primary and secondary phases, working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to create a calm, structured, and encouraging learning environment.

• Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
• Helping pupils access learning through tailored support strategies
• Building strong, trusting relationships with children who may need consistency and reassurance
• Supporting behaviour positively, using clear routines and de-escalation techniques
• Assisting with personal care where required

What we’re looking for:

• A Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
• Experience working with children or young people with SEN
• A calm, patient, and adaptable approach
• Confidence working in both classroom and more specialised learning environments
• Someone who’s happy to get stuck in and be part of the wider school community
