Position Summary
We are seeking a Staff Nurse to join our Inpatient Assessment & Treatment Team within the Orion Unit at Highbury Hospital, Nottingham. The role involves working with adults with an intellectual disability who have complex mental health needs and challenging behaviours, delivering specialist assessment and treatment as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Shift Pattern
The position requires a rational 24‑hour shift pattern, including days, nights and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Unit Manager and Deputy Team Leaders in leading the team to ensure high‑quality assessment, formulation, implementation and evaluation of patients’ needs.
- Provide knowledge of multi‑disciplinary/multi‑professional working, risk management and mental health care needs to the team.
- Maintain records and documentation in line with Trust Policies and NMC Regulations.
- Support carers and families of individuals accessing our services.
- Lead within a named nurse group and provide support to students, preceptors and TNAs.
- Provide clinical supervision and appraisals to named team members.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered Staff Nurse (RNLD or RMN).
- Relevant experience working with people with intellectual disabilities (ID).
- Demonstrated awareness of current issues and legislation affecting people with intellectual disabilities in relation to detained and non‑detained patients.
Requirements
- Applicants must hold a DBS check. The cost of the DBS application (£26.40 standard or £54.40 enhanced) will be deducted from salary over the first two months of employment. Enrolment in the DBS Update Service is recommended, with an annual fee of £16.
