Obstetric Ultrasound Lead | Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Responsibilities

• Managing and overseeing the provision of a high-quality obstetric ultrasound service.
• Combining hands‑on clinical scanning with leadership, mentoring, and service oversight.
• Ensuring scanning protocols and reporting standards reflect best practice and research while supporting the sonography team in delivering scans and managing unexpected clinical findings.
• Managing day‑to‑day operations in the obstetric ultrasound department and working closely with the Ultrasound Manager.
• Ensuring full compliance with local and national standards/protocols, leading on internal audits and service improvements.
• Acting as the Clinical Lead Sonographer for Obstetric Ultrasound and upholding a safe and effective imaging service.
• Working closely with the Ultrasound Manager to ensure safe staffing and staff rotation.
• Providing regular feedback to the General Manager Radiology on compliance with key performance indicators for this service.
• Providing supervision and specialist advice to the ultrasound team of sonographers and students, and to the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Ensuring all aspects of clinical governance are delivered and monitored, including responsibility for the Screening Support Sonographer duties and leading regular peer review audits.
• Liaising with the Ultrasound Manager and Professional Lead to develop effective plans for any learning needs identified.
• Actively developing the service in conjunction with the Fetal Medicine Unit, national and local NHS guidelines and directives, to promote patient advocacy and effective communication with other healthcare professionals.
