Metabolic Medicine Inpatient Booking Co‑ordinator

We are seeking a full‑time, fixed‑term Inpatient Booking Clerk to join the Metabolic Booking Team. The post holder will maintain the delivery of the inpatient pathway of the Service, ensuring compliance with national treatment targets through booking of the Metabolic Nurse’s infusion lists and managing waiting lists on the Trust Patient Administration System.
Applicants must be educated to GCSE level or equivalent. Experience in a busy office environment and computer use is essential. Experience of using PAS is desirable but training will be provided.
Under current Home Office Immigration Rules, this role does not meet the UK Visas and Immigration criteria and is not eligible for skilled worker sponsorship. Applications from candidates requiring sponsorship will not be shortlisted.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the inpatient pathway from decision to admit to the day of admission.
- Maintain a clear and robust inpatient waiting list, monitoring suspensions/deferrals and ensuring capacity for all patients.
- Add patients to the list from outpatient appointments, entering all information into the Careflow system.
- Agree admission dates following national directives.
- Amend clinic slots and ensure documentation is present in Health Care Records.
- Liaise with the Team Leader and Assistant Service Manager for updates on waiting times and make recommendations to improve list management.
- Ensure patients receive all relevant documentation and liaise with Metabolic Nurses regarding admissions.
- Arrange admission dates based on infusion list capacity, re‑arrange cancellations to maximise utilisation.
- Provide information to clinicians on waiting lists.
- Deliver high‑level customer care.
- Deal with queries from patients, medical and nursing staff diplomatically.
- Participate in new staff training.
- Maintain PAS details and update patient details.
- Support Service Manager, Assistant Service Manager and Team Leader.
- Exercise initiative and independent judgement in booking situations.
- Facilitate service improvement to streamline patient journeys and ensure quality care.
Qualifications / Training
- Education to GCSE level or equivalent (incl. Maths and English).
- NVQ Level 3 in relevant subject or demonstrable equivalent experience.
Experience
- Experience in an office environment.
- Use of computers.
- Previous experience of Medical Records / Access Department.
- Knowledge of NHS RTT Targets.

- Team player, able to work flexibly.
- Able to use hospital computer systems (PAS, SF4, Bluespier).
