Role Purpose

The Director of Operations enables the Charity to work at scale by building the operational

backbone that enables people to do their best work. The role turns strategy into clear ways of

working, reliable processes, and well-run business operations, removing friction so teams can

focus on impact. By developing strong operational leaders, embedding continuous improvement,

and ensuring resilient systems and controls, the Director of Operations creates the conditions for

consistent delivery, confident decision-making, and sustainable performance across the

organisation.

The Director of Operations is accountable for the organisation’s operating model — ensuring it is

clearly defined, consistently applied, and evolves over time to enable effective delivery of

strategy.

This role works closely with the Director of Organisational Effectiveness to optimise

organisational process design and drive continual improvement, ensuring that teams have the

systems, tools, and processes required to deliver consistently and efficiently.

The role partners closely with the Director of Finance & Procurement, Director of Strategy &

Transformation and functional directors, acting as the operational engine room of the

organisation.

 This role ensures that specialist operations expertise is translated into practical decisions

and actions across the organisation.

They will lead cross-functional teams, manage

complex programmes, and ensure delivery is aligned with organisational priorities.

 Responsible for driving operational excellence across the business to ensure resilience,

integrity, and sustainable growth.

 Accountable for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of core enabling business

operations, centralising organisational processes to drive efficiency, best practice, and

strategic alignment.

 Support delivery of our charitable and fundraising objectives, working with partnerships

and engagement to ensure end-to-end service processes.

 The role does not hold accountability for frontline service delivery or enterprise risk

ownership, but ensures that the operational systems, processes, and controls required

for effective delivery are in place and functioning.

Strategic Operational Leadership

 Translate organisational strategy into operational plans, delivery frameworks, and service

standards.

 Work closely with the Director of Organisational Design to support the execution of the

operating model, ensuring clarity of roles, processes, and ways of working across

directorates to achieve optimal efficiencies and effectiveness.

 Provide senior leadership across organisational delivery, performance, and operational

alignment.
