Social Work Assistant - Domestic Violence - Patchway

As a Social Work Assistant, you will join a newly established, dedicated team supporting children and their parents who have experienced domestic abuse.
We are offering a part-time opportunity to deliver both one-to-one support and group work with children and young people. You will receive training in the Healing Together programme, equipping you with the tools and resources to deliver a structured, therapeutic intervention programme tailored to the needs of children and their families.

• It will be your responsibility to organise and deliver structured group workshops and sessions for children affected by domestic abuse, focusing on shared experiences, emotional understanding, resilience building and recovery.
• You will plan and provide one-to-one sessions, working directly with children to explore their lived experiences, support their emotional processing and develop personalised safety plans.
• A key aspect of your role will be supporting parents and carers to understand the impact of domestic abuse on their child and, where appropriate, engaging them in the recovery process.
• You will plan interventions, attend and contribute to review meetings, prepare and share reports and represent young people or the service in a range of professional meetings relevant to the families you are supporting.
• Visiting children in a variety of settings, including their home, school or other agreed safe space, you will build positive relationships and gain a meaningful understanding of their experiences.
• Working alongside social workers, you will review and support the implementation of care plans, ensuring they are delivering positive outcomes for children and families. You will also provide signposting and support to access universal and specialist services once interventions have concluded.
• By gathering and sharing information to inform reviews, assessments and plans, you will ensure that the needs, voice and lived experiences of the child remain at the centre of all decision-making.

• It is essential that you are qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, or are working towards a relevant qualification related to supporting children and young people.
• You will have experience of working within a statutory setting with children, young people and families, including cases where domestic abuse is a factor.
• You must have experience and an understanding of risk assessment, including the ability to identify potential risks when planning and delivering work and to take appropriate action to safeguard those involved.
• We require you to have sound knowledge of relevant childcare legislation, including child protection procedures, regulations, codes of practice and associated processes.

This role sits within an area currently undergoing a period of change due to the government-led social care reform. As the sector evolves, some elements of the role may naturally develop too - offering opportunities to grow, adapt and be part of meaningful change. • This is a fixed-term role until 31st March 2027. You will work either 3 days ( 22.2 hours) or 4 days (29.6 hours) per week, with 7.4 hours per day.
• Salary will be pro rata to hours worked.
• Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
• You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
• Business insurance will need to be added to your current car insurance policy.
