Job Title: Town Centre Warden

Salary Scale: Scale 3 (SCP 6 - 7) - £25,989 to £26,403 per annum

PURPOSE AND FUNCTION OF THE POST
Maintenance of the town centre environment in a clean and tidy condition, identifying and reporting matters requiring attention and dealing with enquiries/complaints from the public in a timely manner.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide a point of contact for the local community in respect of town centre maintenance and exercise initiative regarding ongoing town centre cleansing issues which need to be resolved, ensuring priorities are determined appropriately.
2. Undertake routine litter picking duties (including removal of dog fouling and chewing gum) and respond as necessary to areas of specific need, ensuring that environmental situations are responded to in a timely manner and offending items are removed as soon as possible.
3. Remove graffiti, indiscriminate dumping and fly posting, where required, as quickly as possible to ensure the town centre environment is maintained in a clean and tidy condition.
4. Maintain street furniture in a clean condition, including litter bins, seating and signage.
5. Removal of weeds as required to maintain the tidy appearance of town centre streetscapes.
6. Liaise with Enforcement Officers to identify and report Litter Order offences (dropping of general litter and dog fouling offences).
7. Identify and report defects/disrepair/vandalism to the Technical Supervisor for action as necessary.
8. Key holder, responsible for opening and closing facilities at specified times as directed and undertake cleaning and maintenance of public conveniences.
9. Provide advice and assistance as required to members of the public and report issues as necessary to the Technical Supervisor for action.
10. Have due regard for personal health and safety, and the safety of colleagues and the general public, and to comply with and promote equality, health and safety in accordance with Council Policies, procedures and legal requirement.
11. To undertake any other appropriate duties as may be allocated from time to time in accordance with the general nature of the post.
Although a degree of flexibility may be required, the hours of work will initially be on a set working pattern, to include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
