Job Title: Telecommunications Engineer – Network Infrastructure Projects
Duration: Ongoing rolling contract with no fixed end date
Location: UK-wide role working on client sites across England
Responsible to: Head of Projects / Decommissioning Site Manager
Responsible for: Experience with floorplan interpretation, including identifying racking layouts, equipment and circuit locations, as well as carrying out cable tracing and fault identification.
Job function
Reporting to the Head of Projects, the Telecommunications Engineer will support a nationwide infrastructure project with a leading tier 1 telecommunications company. This role involves working across multiple sites throughout England, carrying out rack recovery, cabling, fibre tracing, and network infrastructure activities within live telecom environments.
This is an excellent opportunity for engineers with strong data centre, transmission, fibre, and telecom infrastructure experience who are comfortable working independently and as part of a 2-engineer team when required.
Specific responsibilities
The following outlines the primary areas of responsibility. Additional responsibilities or functions may be required as necessary to support the business.
- Read and interpret floorplans to identify correct racks and infrastructure locations.
- Read and understand Visio rack, circuit, and equipment drawings to identify correct CAL references.
- Safely recover and move cabling while understanding when activities require:
- Single engineer working
- Two-engineer verification and recovery procedures
- Trace copper, fibre, and COAX cabling to confirm correct services are being recovered or relocated.
- Work with CMTS COAX circuits where labelling may be limited or absent.
- Use fibre testing equipment including:
- Fibre red light source devices; LIVE fibre testers
- Red eye testers for 2Mb–155Mb services
- Identify and interpret cable and fibre labelling including “to/from” routing information.
- Determine correct fibre lengths and connector types for new links or equipment relocation activities.
- Understand and work with all fibre connector types used within VMO2 environments.
- Identify equipment status indicators including:
- LIVE ports (green LED)
- Ceased ports (no LED)
- LOS/alarm states (red LED)
- Complete rack recovery activities and safely replace floor tiles after works are completed
- Produce reports, order sheets, and documentation using Microsoft Office applications.

- Understanding of transmission and network connectivity
- Excellent attention to detail and safety awareness
- Ability to travel extensively across England
- Flexibility for overnight stays where required
