Location: Remote (SCC operate hybrid working, which comprises of a mix of office and home working)
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary Package: £45,000- £55,000 plus large company benefits, a broad flexible benefits scheme, and 2 paid‑for volunteering days a year
Hours: 9.00 am – 5.30 pm Monday – Friday

Role purpose
The Automation & Integration Specialist (Application Modernisation & AI) is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting modern integration and automation solutions that underpin SCC’s cloud‑native and AI‑enabled application modernisation strategy. Working closely, under Agile methodology, with cross‑functional teams including Architects, Product Owners, Testers, Cloud Developers, and AI Developers to deliver product increments in line with defined Sprint goals, ensuring they meet both functional and non‑functional requirements (such as scalability, reliability, observability, and security). The role involves problem‑solving, the development of innovative solutions and Proof of Concepts, and the application of AI‑enabled automation patterns to meet client needs.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain intelligent automation workflows using cloud automation services, scripting and AI‑assisted orchestration tools.
- Integrate AI services and models into workflows and applications to enhance decision‑making, interoperability and efficiency.
- Collaborate with domain and solution architects to design and refine integration and automation patterns, including AI‑enabled approaches.
- Implement security best practices for integration and automation components, including identity and secrets management.
- Migrate legacy integrations to modern, scalable patterns such as API‑first, event‑driven and asynchronous messaging.
- Stay updated with cloud, automation, and AI technologies including serverless, microservices and event streaming.
- Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for integrations, APIs, data flows and runbooks.
- Identify and resolve issues in integration workflows, automation pipelines and AI service dependencies to improve performance.
- Perform thorough testing for integrations and automation including functional, performance and resilience testing.
- Continuously improve integration and automation solutions using operational insights, performance data, and stakeholder feedback.
Skills and experience
- Strong knowledge of cloud integration platforms and services (Azure, AWS or GCP), ideally with relevant certifications.
- Experience with APIs, messaging, event streaming and integration patterns including REST, GraphQL and Webhooks.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming (Python, PowerShell, TypeScript or C#), including integrating AI APIs or services.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Logic Apps, Power Automate, Step Functions or Durable Functions.
- Understanding of API management and CI/CD practices for integration artefacts.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills including AI‑assisted automation and intelligent routing patterns.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills within Agile delivery teams.
- Ability to adapt to new tools, cloud services, integration frameworks and AI governance requirements.
- High attention to detail and strong commitment to quality, security, and operational excellence.
- Ability to obtain required UK Security Clearance.
